The wait is finally over and after the full hour of pre-show to get us ready and introduce us to all of the finalists, 2015 Heisman Trophy Winner has been announced.

This year’s Heisman Trophy winner was Derrick Henry, running back out of Alabama. Henry has broken the recent streak of quarterbacks receiving the award with last year’s recipient being Marcus Mariota and the award going to Jameis Winston in 2013. He is the first running back in six years to run away with the trophy with the last being fellow Alabama and current New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram.  Henry and Ingram are the only two players who attended Alabama that received the award. Ingram took to Twitter to congratulate Henry after the ceremony,

Even though Henry came out on top, he had some stiff competition. In second place was Christian McCaffrey, running back for the Stanford Cardinals and coming in third was Deshaun Watson, quarterback for the Clemson Tigers. Henry received 1,832 points, McCaffrey came in a close second with 1,539 points and finally Watson rounded out the group with 1,165 points. While the competition was tight and it was unclear who would take it home, it was obvious by the way his reaction that Henry was definitely appreciative and surprised.

Henry had a monster season this year to say the least. He has rushed for 1,986 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 339 total rushes. With his 23 touchdowns, Henry has tied the SEC’s single-season touchdown record and set the conference’s current rushing record at 1,986 yards. Henry is arguably one of the reasons why Alabama is having as much success as they are and it doesn’t look like the junior will be slowing down anytime soon.

Congrats to Derrick Henry on his amazing season and his new Heisman trophy!
