060210-NBA-Coach-K-JW_20100602184538_660_320Mike Krzyzewski is one of the greatest coaches in basketball history.  He has coached Olympic teams and won gold medals, but his coaching career at Duke University has made him a legend.  Today, his team helped his cement that legacy by handing him his 900th win at the school.

Krzyzewski already holds the most wins by any head coach in Division-1 men’s basketball with 973 wins, but now he joins Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim as the only coach to get 900 wins with one program.

When asked about his achievement, Coach K said,  “That’s a lot of wins.  I thank Duke for keeping me. I’ve been blessed with being at one of the greatest schools in the world. Great schools don’t necessarily always have great people in command. This school has. … We have a good thing going here and I’ve been blessed to be here for over three decades and take advantage of that.”

It was not the prettiest 900th win, but his team all contributed with rebounds and converting on Florida State turnovers.  Rodney Hood had 18 points, while Jabari Parker contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds.  The Blue Devils as a team had 47 rebounds, including 27 offensive rebounds. They beat the Seminoles 78-56.
