Eric Berry continues to hold out of training camp as he and the Kansas City Chiefs have yet to agree to terms on a deal. On Wednesday, Chief’s GM John Dorsey said that he expects Berry to show up in time for their first regular season game against the San Diego Chargers on September 11th.

Berry and the Chiefs tried to compromise on an extension earlier this summer, but to no avail. The Chiefs franchise-tagged him to keep him off the market, but it’s only worth $10.8 million and the free safety never signed the tender. He wants a long-term deal with guaranteed money, but he’s coming off of a comeback season after battling and beating cancer. The Chiefs front office appears wary and uncertain about signing him to a long-term deal because he’s getting older and coming off of such a serious illness.

Chad Speck, Berry’s agent, has said that he believes at some juncture during the course his client will return, but that he hasn’t spoken to him about an exact date. One thing is for certain, if the Kansas City Chiefs wants to have a top defense like last season, they’re going to have to sign Eric Berry soon. I really believe if the Chiefs don’t sign him quickly Berry will walk and test out free agency next offseason.

These are my thoughts, but let me know what you think! Don’t hesitate to comment below.
