Baseball was always second best to me, I was always immersed in football as a kid and clearly, nothing about that has changed. When I was younger, I went to an Orioles game when I didn’t really care much about sports but that all changed last week. Going to an Orioles game as an adult has given me a new appreciation for baseball.

I had a lot of realizations during that game, mostly about how awesome being an adult at a baseball game is.  First, baseball and alcohol are a perfect combination. Second, never let anyone ruin the game for you because a game is all about having fun! Now, onto the fun part the actual game: The game was phenomenal and it was the O’s second game against the Red Sox. After their first win, it looked like it could go either way considering that the score for that was 0-1, but the Orioles ended up pulling it off, leaving the score 2-5. While most of the recent games are talked about due to home runs, sadly there was no home runs at the game I was at. Even with the lack of home runs, the game was still pretty wonderful. The starting line was the usual, but maybe it was their win over the Sox the first night but the Orioles seemed much more confident.

One of the biggest plays of the night was made by outfielder Adam Jones. Jones is well-known throughout Baltimore and has one of the best personalities in baseball today. He’s very active on twitter and it’s obvious that he runs it himself. With tweets like “Stay on the grind #CravingDonuts #WhatsNew #StayHungry” and one of my personal favorites “Is it really National Donut Day? Looks like I have a mission.”, Jones is known for being a “social media darling”, but Jones makes the most impact on the field.

The play, which has been featured on multiple sites in video form, showed Jones making a flawless catch. It was the top of the fifth inning and the Orioles were up by 2. With Chen pitching and Betts up to bat, it looked like it was going to make a 1-point game. Fortunately, Jones ran and dove right for the ball, making the catch while also blowing a bubble. Of course, every Orioles fan in the crowd went completely nuts, leaving Jones with the play of the game.

While it looked a little shaky for the Orioles recently, they have been bringing it back especially with their franchise record high home runs. With 8 home runs (in one game!) to be exact, the Orioles are slowly raising from the 3rd place in the AL Eastern Division. With Adam Jones, Chris Davis, Manny Machado and Travis Snider among others, the Orioles look to be making a comeback and 2 wins away from first place, it looks like the birds are flying back up to the top.
