The Andy Reid in Kansas City era has started and his first major move was acquiring a new quarterback.   After losing his starting job to Colin Kaepernick, it was only a matter of time before the San Francisco 49ers traded away Alex Smith.  Smith has not started a game since week 10 when he had a concussion and the world got to see Kaepernick.  Smith led his team last year to an NFC Championship Game against the eventual Super Bowl champs, the New York Giants.

This could be a very good move for a team who went 2-14 last year and winless against the AFC West.  He comes into a system that already has an established running back in Jamaal Charles and a good receiver in Dwayne Bowe.  With the first pick in the draft, they can also get Smith some protection at the line of scrimmage.

The 49ers could end up regretting this decision and they give away their insurance.  Kaepernick is constantly vulnerable for getting hurt during games with his style of play.  We all know what happened with Redskins’ quarterback Robert Griffin III and his knee injury.
