131105smith_323x216Hopefully, this is the start of 49ers Aldon Smith’s new clean and sober life.  After completing five weeks of treatment for alcoholism, Smith reunited with his teammates at practice this week.  This has been a huge week for San Francisco as they also got news that wide receiver Michael Crabtree was cleared to practice.  When speaking to the media, Smith was grateful for all the support he received.

“It’s been a process since I left.  I’m getting there. Every day is a step closer to where I want to be.  I’ve gotten a lot of support, from my family, friends, the organization, teammates and everything.  It really says a lot that people care about me outside the field, that they care about me as a person. … We could all look into our lives and find something that we need to work on. I’ve taken my time and I’ve done that.”

Since Smith’s absence, San Francisco has won all five games, but Smith is still looking to play this Sunday against the red hot Carolina Panthers.  He managed to stay in football shape despite being away from his team for over a month.  When asked, how he looked during individual drills, DT Justin Smith said he looked like “a freak of nature”.  Aldon has often been referred to that given his raw talent and speed. He is such an amazing player and it appears we have only seen the tip of his potential.  Hopefully, Smith can stay sober and can surround himself with positive people!  Side note, Smith realized how crazy he looked inhis mugshot an decided it was time ot cut his hair.
