Well I promised regular updates on how my first Fantasy Football-less season is going thus far, so here we go!  Regular season kicked off less than forty-eight hours ago and I already have my feelings on being the outsider looking in.  It was surely strange watching the Falcons take on the defending champion Eagles without keeping my eye on Julio, Jay Ajayi, or even Matt Ryan.  I can’t say I hated it, though.

The past few weeks leading up to the regular season seemed to actually be a bit trickier watching leagues hold their annual drafts.  Maybe it was draft party envy, missing the excitement of strategy and preparation, or just the absence of the typical August, Labor Day routine.  Hell, I even missed my first SportsAsToldByAGirl fantasy league and that was tough to turn down! More than a handful of friends have sent me their line-ups in order to receive feedback which was much appreciated.  It gave me just enough of a taste to get me through to the start of the NFL (aka Packer) season.

First obvious plus: I am saving a couple hundred bucks!  I can pretty easily convince myself that sitting this season out is worth it if only for saving some cash.  Watching game one of the season was oddly refreshing from a holistic point of view and not focusing on a couple of individual players, often on opposing teams (seriously, the worst).  ALREADY, I can tell that I will save a lot of time this season!  Proposing/pondering trades, frantically reading up on injuries, and generally scrutinizing my line-up each and every day will all be a refreshing time-saver.

Though it’s not the most honorable of personal challenges of my life, it is always interesting to keep ourselves on our toes and see how we fare with change and straying from our own respective norms.  What’s the worst that can come from this? I jump back in next year and remember this experience. It will be interesting to see how I feel in four weeks.  Keep your eyes peeled for another (probably more certain) update in October!
