Last night in Egypt, a visiting Cairo team came to Port Said for a soccer game between two major rivals. Ahly, the team from Cairo suffered a rare loss which resulted in pure madness. The team and their fans ran for safety in the locker rooms, but blood was still shed. As a result, 73 people were killed and thousands more were injured. Apparently, one of the reasons for this was the very minimal security provided for such a heated rivalry match. Officials believe that this was a planned act of violence by thugs connected to toppled President Hosni Mubarak. One official had this to say, “The events in Port Said are planned and are a message from the remnants of the former regime.” Such a sad and unnecessary tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost a loved one.
