The Mets have had the craziest 48 hours filled with both hope and despair.  Talks swirled that the team had reacquired OF Carlos Gomez from the Brewers, but just as quickly as fans were buying Gomez jerseys, news was breaking that the deal fell through.  Reports differ in that the Mets camp is saying it was because of health concerns regarding Gomez’s lingering hip injury while Gomez’s camp denies any injury and alluded to the idea the Mets finances were responsible.  Gomez has since been traded to the Astros, bad hip and all, after clearing Houston’s physical and the Mets are stuck after losing a heartbreaker where they were up 6-1.

The team is at an all-time low this season.  One of their players, Wilmer Flores, has gone through absolute hell believing he was traded and unable to hold in his emotions has now become an Internet meme and likely lost all confidence in himself.  The team is reportedly still in the market for a ‘big bat’ and going after Reds OF Jay Bruce.  Bruce can help the team who has struggled all year with their offense, but is this team mentally ready?  Their closer Jeurys Familia has not been able to close the door since the All-Star break. However, the team did try to take some of the pressure off by acquiring relief pitcher Tyler Clippard.  Familia will still need to get mentally focused if this team is ready to finally be playing October baseball.

This is a young team with all the potential in the world.  Whether they acquire Bruce or Padres OF Justin Upton, it is less about the name and more about the move.  The players and fans are ready to buy in, but it finally seems like the management is ready to buy in.  Not making a move could close the book on this season for a team who has overachieved all season.
