Just days after being arrested for marijuana possession, Steelers running backs Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount surprisingly played most of the game.  Many may have questioned head coach Mike Tomlin’s decision to play his two star running backs into the fourth quarter.

After the game, Tomlin explained his decision, “I didn’t view it as punishment to send them home, to not play in this preseason game.  I’d rather play them more than anticipated than to remove them from the game, so that’s why we took the stance we took tonight. Obviously we’ve got some things to do regarding the matter moving forward but not a lot to say at this point and time.”

He called his players actions “unacceptable”, but would not go much further than that.  Blount apologized for his actions saying, “I’m sorry for the distraction that I caused my team.  I just want to apologize to my team and my coach and my organization for causing that distraction.”

While Blount said everything right after his arrest, Le’Veon Bell took a different approach.  According to the incident report, when the officer asked Bell if he was high, he responded, “I didn’t know you could get a DUI for being high. I smoked two hours ago. I’m not high anymore. I’m perfectly fine. Why would I be getting high if I had to make it to my game?”

Really Le’Veon?  That was what you thought was the best thing to say to a police officer while being pulled over?  It is unclear how long these two will be suspected or even when they will be suspended.  The Steelers really cannot afford to lose these two with their current struggling offense.
