First it was Ray Allen that signed with rival Miami, then it was the mega-trade on draft night that sent Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn and finally Doc Rivers found a new home as the Los Angeles Clippers head coach.  It was only a matter of time before Rajon Rondo, the final piece of the 2008 championship team, left Boston as well.

Everyone is still getting over the news that Marc Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks pulled the trigger to bring Rajon Rondo to Dallas.  The Boston Celtics received Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson, a 2015 first-round pick, and a 2016 second-round pick.  The trade indicates exactly where both of these teams stand. The Celtics blew up the 2008 championship team and are looking to build another one, while the Mavericks see their window for another championship is closing as their star Dirk Nowitzki gets older.  The trade was announced days ago, but tonight the All-Star point guard will make his debut against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs are coming off a brutal stretch of games and are looking for a big win tonight to spoil Rondo’s Dallas debut.  San Antonio has played three games in the past four days, two of which went into triple overtime.  All of those games have also been losses for them.  They are still not even close to 100 percent healthy as a team, but have the capacity to beat anyone on any given day.

The Mavs have all the momentum in their court tonight.  They already had a championship-level team, but with the addition of Rondo, they could definitely be seen as one of the top teams in the tough Western Conference.  The Mavs already have a top head coach and a veteran lineup. Dallas should be rocking tonight with all the excitement in this game.
