It is a very sad day in the baseball world. Today we lost one of the greatest catchers to play the game. Gary Carter was not only a great player, but also a great person. He has been described by his teammates as a great leader, a guy who had winning in his heart, and a scrapper. He never gave up on a play. He was always hustling around the base paths. “Gary was one of the happiest guys in the world every day,” Mets teammate Mookie Wilson once said. His daughter posted the sad news saying, “I am deeply saddened to tell you all that my precious dad went to be with Jesus today at 4:10 p.m. This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to write in my entire life but I wanted you all to know.” Carter has been battling brain cancer for almost a year now. He was most known for his contagious smile and long flowing blonde curls that stuck out under his helmet. He will be deeply missed by all Mets fans as well as baseball enthusiasts alike.
