Screen shot 2014-05-23 at 3.43.15 PMDays after learning he will not face any jail time, Ravens running back Ray Rice and his wife Janay Palmer held a press conference. Rice and Palmer were both arrested after getting into a physical altercation at Revel casino in Atlantic City, NJ.   Days later, video surfaced showing Rice dragging his unconscious then-fiancee out of an elevator.

Today, the couple sat down and Rice apologized for his actions.  “Sometimes in life you will fail, but I won’t call myself a failure. A failure is not getting knocked down. It’s not getting up.” As if his choice of words were not uncomfortable enough, his wife made a statement as well apologizing for her role in the incident.

I do deeply regret the role that I played in the incident that night. But I can tell say that I am happy that we continue to work through it together, and we are continuing to strengthen our relationship and our marriage … and working to being better parents for Ravyn and continuing to be role models,” she said.

What exactly was her role?  Being on the receiving end of an upper cut?  Sorry, but no woman she ever apologize for her husband putting his hands on her.  While Rice will not face jail time, the league is expected to suspend him for the first three games of the season.  To put that in perspective, Colts defensive end Robert Mathis received a four game suspension for taking a banned substance that helped he and his wife conceive a child.  Hey Roger Goodell, think it is time to review the way you punish athletes?

  1. […] Janay got into a public altercation which resulted in her being knocked out cold.  The two held a bizarre press conference in which they tried to show a united front with Janay apologized for her role in the incident. […]

  2. Why do people have to be so unbalanced? She is apologizing because she realizes that she played a part in it, also. Why does the writer have to say she should not be sorry at all? She was smacking him on the way into the elevator, and when she was punched, she was lunging for him. He was not going after her, at that moment.
I am not saying that gives him the right to knock her out, but could we at least be fair and not zealously pushing a one way argument, when it is a two way argument? Please?
It is wrong for any one to hit any one at any time. IF you ignore the woman’s role in getting herself punched, then you can NEVER solve the problem. Women have been much more vicious to me in my life than men. They will hurt you as bad as they can, in any way, if they are scorned in any way.
I have worked in schools and watched girls get away with bloodying a boy’s nose, and no one says a word. But, then a boy barely touches a girl, and they bring in the swat team! It is more wrong for a man to hit a woman, because men can do so much more damage, generally speaking, but it is still VERY wrong for a woman to hit man, as well.
But, what is really wrong is making it ok for women to hit men, and expect not to be hit back.
