While some people think certain players are “untouchables”, new Nationals manager Matt Williams showed that is not the truth.  Williams made a bold decision to take out young super star Bryce Harper after he did not run out a groundout in the sixth inning.  He was replaced by Kevin Frandsen.  Washington lost the game 4-3 to the St. Louis Cardinals and the manager did not shy away from addressing the benching.

“Lack of hustle. That’s why he came out of the game,” Williams said. “He and I made an agreement, this team made an agreement, that when we play the game, that we hustle at all times.” National GM Mike Rizzo supported the manager’s decision to bench the two-time All Star.

Harper also said he respected Williams’ decision. “I respect what he did,” Harper said. “That’s part of the game. “I unequivocally support the manager’s decision 100 percent.”  Harper finished the day 0 for 3.  He had one home run and five RBIs on the season.
