It has been an awful week in sports, and unfortunately things are only getting worse.  While most of the attention has been on Roger Goodell’s ineptitude, it is now New York Mets owner Jeff Wilpon under fire.  Wilpon is being sued by a former Mets executive for allegedly firing her for being unwed and pregnant.

Leigh Castergine claims Wilpon let her go because he was “morally opposed” to her not being married and having a baby.  Castergine was the head of marketing and ticket sales prior to being fired when she complained to the HR department.

In the suit, she also brings up how the owners are running the franchise into the ground due to their inability to put out a winning team.  She states in the lawsuit, “In particular, the Team’s front office has failed to field a winning team in six years, including 2014, and has made a series of public relations blunders that too frequently led to the franchise being ridiculed in the sports pages.”  She goes on to mention that fans have told her they will not return to Citifield until the Wilpons are gone.

I find this suit especially deplorable because my mother was a single parent. If there is one thing I know, no one works harder than a single parent.   I am also a suffering Mets team and have refused to go to a game this season because of the lack of talent this front office has put together.  o to see a woman be treated like this enrages me that this still goes on in 2014.  This type of sexism should be the final straw for the Wilpons who have proven time and time again that they are incompetent to run an MLB franchise.
