From duck, duck, grey duck (I’m from Minnesota, people), to rock ‘em sock ‘em robots, to hide & seek, touchdown celebrations in the NFL are BACK and have made football even more fun to watch!

After last season, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the league in a letter, saying it wants to “allow players more room to have fun after they make big plays.”

Previously, if players celebrated excessively they were fined, regardless of the nature of the celebration. Some didn’t mind shelling out cash to commemorate their big play, Steelers WR Antonio Brown probably being the most notable, but most settled for hugs, high fives and other encouragement from teammates. To be fair, if celebrations are vulgar or inappropriate, they’ll still be fined, but dancing, playing games, etc. are now allowed by the league.

This season, players are getting very creative and making their post-touchdown move almost more fun than the play itself.

The Minnesota Vikings made a big statement in week five against the Chicago Bears with a game of Duck, Duck, Grey Duck/Goose after Kyle Rudolph hauled in a touchdown. We’ll save the debate over the name of the children’s game for later.

Some other memorable celebrations include:

  • Kansas City Chiefs facing off in a potato sack race after a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers playing hide & seek after a 31-yard touchdown catch against the Cincinnati Bengals.
  • Minnesota Vikings playing leapfrog after scoring against the Washington Redskins.
  • Tennessee Titans doing their best impression of the Temptations in a game against the Baltimore Ravens.

And so many more…do you have a favorite? Comment on your favorite celebration below!

It’s fun to see the players embrace celebrations in a light-hearted and family-friendly way. For the most part, they aren’t offending anyone or cheering in a way kids shouldn’t see.

Even if you aren’t a big NFL fan the relaxing of the celebration rule has made the game much more entertaining. We can’t wait to see what the players come up with next!
