Larry Sanders had a rocky time with the Milwaukee Bucks.  There were drug suspensions, disagreements with teammates and coaches, and even a bar fight.  Finally, after Sanders walked away from the team, the Bucks reached a deal with Sanders and bought out the center.  It was the best thing that could happen for both sides as the Bucks reduced the cap space taken up by Sanders’ contract and Sanders gets a chance to work on himself.

Now, Larry Sanders is explaining why he walked away from the game he loved. In an interview with the Players Tribune, he reveals that he checked into Rogers Memorial Hospital for a program dealing with mood disorders, anxiety, and depression. He goes on to say, “It taught me a lot about myself. They taught me a lot about what’s important, where I would want to devote my time and energy.”

He still loves the game of basketball, “But for it to be consuming so much of my time right now, it’s not there for me. It’s not that worth it,” he continues. He does hope to play basketball one day again, but he must get to a point where he is capable again.

He understands that many people cannot understand how he could get depressed from playing basketball and getting paid millions.  However, he said that is not what makes him rich.  His family is what makes him rich.  He goes on to talk about his struggle with cannabis and how it came into his life.  It is quite interesting to hear Sanders be so open about how people started treating him once he got to the NBA and how stress started ruining his life.  He does wish he could have said goodbye to the Bucks in a better way.
