As if the Lakers season couldn’t get any more dramatic, leave it to Hollywood’s team to throw in another plot twist.  It looked like the Lakers were on a good track with the return of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol from injuries.   It was only a matter of time for Metta World Peace to get injured as he is the only Opening Day starter who had yet to miss a game due to injury.  Now he will miss up to six weeks as he is scheduled to undergo surgery on a torn meniscus in his left knee tomorrow. Jodie Meeks will start in his place.   This could be the last time World Peace will wear the purple and gold.

He has a player option of $7.7 million for next season, but this is Metta’s 15th season and he will turn 34  later this year.   World Peace has said that he has thought about declining this option and instead look for a long term deal.  Without Metta, the Lakers could miss the playoffs. Currently, they only have a one game lead in the eighth seed in the Western Conference over both the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks.
