With Halloween upon us, it’s extremely endearing to see professional athletes getting into the holiday spirit. In this little break from the typical sports coverage, I’m going to take a look at my top five favorite Halloween costumes this year. I’ll be focusing on members of the National Hockey League, so prepare yourself for a treat.

1. P.K. Subban – “Thriller.”

hallo-580If you haven’t seen Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman P.K. Subban dressed as Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” you’ve been missing out. The attention to detail and how accurate this costume came out truly brings it to the top of my life. When I first saw a picture of this, I was so impressed and kind of upset that I’d never be able to pull off “Thriller” as beautifully as Subban.

2. The Boston Bruins – “Frozen.”

While you may think it’s unfair that I’m putting a group costume in the second place slot of this list, I really think you need to take a look at what they had going on. Team members dressed as the cast of Disney’s “Frozen” and visited a children’s hospital. I’m a huge sucker for anything that’ll tear at the heartstrings, and this did just that. Should I have put this in the number one spot? Probably. But I can’t get over how skilled Subban’s getup was.

3. Carey Price – “The Price is Right.”

This one gets a spot on the list because there’s nothing I love more than clever wordplay. I think the intent with this one is pretty obvious. Carey Price? The Price is Right? Excuse me while I continue to giggle to myself about that one. Plus, Price and his wife look completely adorable in their matching outfits. How could anyone resist?

4. Sidney Crosby – “Rocky Balboa.”

I just want you to stare at Crosby, and then look at the picture of Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa. The resemblance is way too freaky for my liking. It also helps that Crosby, as we all know, is a star player on the Pittsburgh Penguins. What else happened in Pennsylvania? The Rocky franchise. Coincidence? I think not.

5. The Dallas Stars – “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

While this one might not have a sentimental story behind it, I really like the enthusiasm seen in this photo. Each player looks like he genuinely wants to be part of the group effort, and it really looks like they’re little boys on Halloween. Way too cute, in my opinion.

There were countless great Halloween costumes displayed by members of the National Hockey League this year, and it was extremely hard to narrow my favorites down into a succinct list of five. I’d give each costume listed an A+ for effort. I cant’ wait to see what other costumes emerge over Halloween weekend, and what the players will have in store for us next year.
