Looks like Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez finally has one person in his corner.  Ex-slugger and accused steroid user Barry Bonds doesn’t understand why people can’t stand the third baseman. Rodriguez is closing in on a major milestone, he is just five home runs away from tying Willie Mays’ record of 660 homers.  Currently, Rodriguez is fifth on the all-time list, Bonds of course is the home run king at 762.

When asked about Rodriguez’s impending accomplishment, he told USA Today,  “But when Alex hits No. 660, I’ll be happy for him. Willie will be happy for him. Everybody should be happy for him. Any time anybody in the game does something that’s a great accomplishment, the game of baseball should celebrate that.” Yes, it is exciting for Rodriguez and all of baseball to see records be broken, but his reputation has forever been tarnished and its hard to respect a guy getting paid so much money as an admitted cheater.  Once he does hit home run 660, the Yankees will have to pay him an additional $6 million.

Bonds described Rodriguez as entertaining.  It helps that he has been off to a hot start, hitting .300 to start the season.  Bonds then finished off by telling people to lighten up, saying, “He’s not running for commissioner. We’re not running for political office. We’re just ballplayers. We’re not God. We’re imperfect people. We’re human beings.”
