This past weekend, after three consecutive losses, former Tennessee coach, Butch Jones, was fired.  This last loss to Mizzou (50-17) was the last straw and left the Volunteers 0-6 in the SEC and a 4-6 record overall.

According to the UT athletic director John Currie, Jones was relieved of his head coach position without cause. “We haven’t won enough.” Currie says. Jones was admired for the way he could recruit and his ability to build a program.  He led the Volunteers to back to back nine win seasons two years ago and three bowl victories but the past just wasn’t enough to keep Butch around.

Word of firing Butch Jones, stemming from all around the SEC, became louder and even some humorous “Keep Butch Jones” signs from fan bases such as Alabama after they handed them a 45-7 loss.  Jones will leave the UT program with a 34-27 record and a $8.125 million buyout.

For now, defensive line coach Brady Hoke will take over the team. The Volunteers will take ono LSU and Vanderbilt to finish their season at home.
